Community Service
With the Cana Team, it's more than building homes -- it's about building the community. That's why we take advantage of the opportunity to give back. Whether it's organizing soccer teams or helping to build a home for Habitat for Humanity, we love the way it feels to see the smiles on our neighbors' faces.
Always active in the community, CANA Corporation President Randy Wallace has served as president of United Way of Horry County, Coastal Carolina Association of REALTORS, the FUMC Men's Fellowship, and the intermediate school PTO. Still active in these organizations and others, Wallace is a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity, YMCA of Coastal Carolina, Horry County public schools, and a number of local charities, He currently serves on the Board of Directors for United Way, the YMCA, and the administration board of his local church. For 22 years he has headed the REALTORS Mark Sloan Memorial Golf Tournament which has raised over $300,000 for cancer research and facilities. A soccer enthusiast, Wallace helped organize girls' club soccer in the area, sponsors Coastal Futbol Club, YMCA, and high school teams, and is assisting the YMCA to create new soccer fields. Presently, Wallace is heading efforts to build new lots for Habitat for Humanity homes (along with Builder-partner, Derrick Blanton) and is co-chairing the YMCA's Capital Campaign to build a new $7.5 million facility in Myrtle Beach.
Randy and his wife, Chris, have 2 grown children and 2 in college. They are active members of First United Methodist Church in Myrtle Beach, where Randy has worked with teenage youth for over 25 years. Since 1988, Randy has also directed a summer youth travel experience, The Western Tour for Boys & Girls, Inc., an organization started by his uncle, Randy Gravely, and R.L. Cockfield in Lake City, S.C. back in 1957.
In addition to Wallace's personal community involvement, the company and individual staff members support a number of area schools and charities.
Joe and Mary Lynn Hope are involved in many local school causes. Mary Lynn Hope is the Team Captain for the local Relay for Life Cancer Walk. Donna Kostanek participates every year as well. Every Thanksgiving Joe also heads up The Basket Brigade, a neighborhood effort to supply 10-15 families with an overflowing food collection, which is delivered by the CANA staff. Kay Mullins helps one of our builders raise funds for the local shelter home for children.
Derrick Blanton has built several homes for Habitat for Humanity, mainly in association with the Horry County Builders Blitz.
The list goes on and continues throughout the year, because everyone at CANA is thankful to live and work here, and we believe we have an obligation to help make things better when we can. We are thankful for you as well-our many customers and clients-and we hope you will join us in making a positive contribution to our community and to our neighbors all around us.
